This blog is about the internet 1.0 era of the early 1990s-2010s.
The internet was relatively new for most people, far more decentralised, search engines like google didn’t suck and large parts of the internet did not have a problem of enshittification (when “an online platform becomes more monetized and less user-oriented the longer it lasts”)
A lot of websites and message boards were just run by hobbyists wanting to share their thoughts and hobbies.
You used to actually surf the internet (like a Wikipedia deep dive) through word of mouth on forums, links on websites and webrings (remember those?).
While it was far from perfect, it is hard to describe how cool this era was.
Anyway, this is blog is about the era and the people in it.
